How hard is it for someone to get on antipsychotic medication

Let me list the usual procedure.

The person with psychotic symptoms is seeing a Counselor / Therapist / Social Worker / or Psychologist with frequent visits for their problems.

The Therapist will have u sign papers so he can speak with ur Psychiatrist (MD specializing in the mind & behavior). The Psychiatrist will also have u sign permission papers to be able to speak with the Therapist about ur case.

When ur distress is becoming unmanageable & ur functioning is questionable, the Therapist will ask u to see ur Psychiatrist - & will confer privately with him over the phone. When u see the Psychiatrist he will have the info needed to verify ur condition & the recommendation for medication. The Psychiatrist at this point will write out a prescription for u to take to ur pharmacy for ur supply of anti psychotic medication.

These days?

All u have to do is walk in a therapists door, & they will usually be more than happy to put u on medication.

The question u should be asking is ''Do I really need medication? Or, r there family, social, emotional & psychological issues going on''?

Treat the cause not the symptoms. For, u may very well not need to be medicated.

Get educated.
Ask questions.
Be willing to face what may be really going on instead of taking the easy way out by popping pills.

Should be pretty easy. Psychiatrists seem to be happy to give it to everyone they can!
